A Passion for Artmaking

Jamie Harrison

I'm a UC Berkeley 2024 Art grad who recently began creating full time. I make my living from commissions, where I offer bespoke, stylized interpretations of beloved memories, moments, places, and people.

In my personal practice, I aim to explore the bounds of my visual language through abstraction and pattern recognition, creating jumbled messes obfuscated by the process. From that miasma of haphazard decision making, I identify symbols and objects which speak towards my own identity and bring them back into existence on the canvas. I converse with my process, letting the method say its piece and respond to it in kind.

I also work digitally, generally aiming for the same outcomes, but rather than an uninformed beginning, I always try and offer rebuttals to new technology. AI is an unavoidable and pervasive part of the artistic landscape now, and I think that the changes it has introduced merit proper, considered responses. I ape their process, scouring my life and the internet for apt images which I distort and appropriate for my own purposes. I intend to show that despite the tools now at our fingertips, digital art is still the most meaningful when championed by a human cognition, informed by human emotions, and created with honesty. Art, digital or otherwise, doesn't need to be pretty - it needs to be human.

About Me: About Me
